Pregnant after 35

Integrated Prenatal Screen

Hi ladies,

I'm Canadian and I think we do our screening a little different here. We have the first blood test + nuchal fold measurement between 11 and 13 weeks and then a second blood test between 15 and 18 weeks. That means that I won't get my results until well into the second trimester which has me a little mystified. What's the point in doing it that late when it's not even definitive? Is the genetic testing done the same way in the U.S.? I'm just anxious but I want to know that I have a healthy baby. I'm a little impatient I suppose :)

  • That sounds like the way my testing is going

  • Sounds pretty much like the standard timing of the first and second trimester tests in the US. Aside from those tests though I also had a few elective tests -- I did the Verifi blood test to check for chromosomal abnormalities and find out the sex. And my husband and I both had a blood test done that checks if you are a carrier for 100+ genetic diseases.
